GAME RECAPMichael Jordan scored 34 points and keyed a pair of third-quarter runs as the Chicago Bulls routed the Golden State Warriors, 120-87, for their sixth straight win.
Scottie Pippen had 22 points and Toni Kukoc added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Chicago, which has won 14 of its last 15 games. Dennis Rodman grabbed 12 rebounds for the Bulls, who are a league-best 25-1 at home and have won the last 11 meetings with Golden State.
Jordan made 13-of-19 shots from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point range.
"Scottie and I have been in a zone lately," Jordan said. "We've both been putting the ball up and it's been falling. Tonight, we didn't really have to work as hard for our shot because I had my three-point shot going. Right now, we're just in a real good groove. And I hope we keep it going."
The Bulls got back on track to match their record pace of 72 regular-season wins last season.
"Right now, we're on a very good streak pushing through the month of February," Bulls coach Phil Jackson said. "Looking ahead, we see that in March we will have some tough games on the road against some excellent teams."
Joe Smith scored 19 points, Latrell Sprewell added 18 and Mark Price contributed 11 for Golden State, which suffered its third straight road loss and fell to 9-18 away from home.
"They took us apart from the middle of the third quarter on," said Warriors coach Rick Adelman. "It was just a rout after that. They did pretty much anything they wanted to do. I really think the Bulls are a better team than they were last year. They've been together for a year now. And with Rodman and the guys off the bench, they are just an excellent basketball team."
"When Jordan and Pippen are playing that well, it's going to be difficult to beat them anytime," Sprewell admitted. "It seems they're running their offense to perfection right now. The triangle offense that they run is very successful, very difficult to stop. The one thing people forget about is their defensive play. They're in your face for 20 seconds then they get the rebound and an easy transition score. That is why right now they are the best."
The Warriors have not beaten the Bulls since November 5th, 1991.
After Bimbo Coles hit a 10-footer to close the Warriors within 61-53 with 9:25 left in the third quarter, Jordan made two free throws to ignite a 12-2 run. Jordan scored seven points during the stretch, including a three-point play midway through the period for a 73-55 lead.
Golden State didn't fade as it drew within 75-63 on a layup from Coles late in the third. But Chicago responded as Jordan nailed a 12-footer to start a 10-2 surge. Jordan had four points during the stretch as did Pippen, who made a layup to cap the burst for an 85-65 bulge with 2:16 to go in the third.
The Bulls settled for a 90-71 lead after three quarters and cruisd in the fourth quarter. Jordan and Rodman did not play in the fourth quarter as the the Bulls opened the final period with a 12-2 run to put the game out of reach.
Chicago led by as many as 38 points.
Jason Caffey scored 13 points for Chicago, which outrebounded the Warriors 54-45 and scored 30 points off turnovers.
