Game Story

EVANSTON, Illinois (Ticker) -- Noah Herron and Northwestern are getting pretty good at overtimes. Herron scored on a 16-yard run in double overtime as the Wildcats edged Indiana, 31-24, in a Big Ten Conference contest. Last week, Herron ran it in from two yards out in overtime as Northwestern stunned Ohio State, 33-27. In this one, Indiana scored on its second play of the first extra period as quarterback Matt LoVecchio tossed a 25-yard TD pass to Jahkeen Gilmore. Northwestern quarterback Brett Basanez tied it after scrambling and finding Taylor Jones for a two-yard TD. The Wildcats got the ball first in double overtime, and on 4th-and-1 from the 16, Herron ran around the right end for a touchdown. Herron finished with 197 yards and three TDs. Northwestern sacked LoVecchio on 4th-and-3 from the 18 to end the game. Basanez completed 28-of-48 passes for 254 yards, one touchdown and one interception for the Wildcats (3-3, 2-1 Big Ten), who have played three overtime games this season. They lost in double overtime at Texas Christian on September 2, 48-45. LoVecchio was 27-of-50 for 329 yards, three TDs and an interception for the Hoosiers (2-3, 0-3), who also lost to the Wildcats in overtime last year, 37-31. Indiana took its first lead, 17-14, on a 35-yard field goal by Bryan Robertson with 11:28 left in the fourth quarter. Northwestern's Brian Huffman tied it with a 32-yard kick with 29 seconds left.
