Chris Lubanski hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning as High Desert won a California League pitchers' duel, 2-0, over Lancaster on Saturday.

Both teams matched zero for zero for eight innings until Angel Sanchez hit a one-out single in the ninth. Lubanski followed with his 25th home run, depositing A.J. Shappi's offering over the right field fence.

Bernard Stephens and Kila Kaaihue had two-out doubles in the second and fourth innings, respectively, but each was left stranded. Kaaihue was the only Maverick with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.

Billy Buckner, Chris Coughlin and Gabe DeHoyos combined on a four-hitter, with Coughlin (5-10) getting the win. He tossed two scoreless innings, striking out one while allowing a hit and a walk. DeHoyos worked a perfect ninth for his fifth save.

Shappi (15-7) turned in one of his better starts for the JetHawks but wound up the hard-luck loser. He allowed both runs on six hits over 8 1/3 innings, fanning seven. The 22-year-old right-hander retired the side in order five times.
