Bees Pick Up First "W" Of The Season
Geneva, IL (April 14, 2009) - The Burlington Bees defeated Kane County 3-2 Tuesday afternoon at Elfstrom Stadium. The win was the first of the year for the Bees, who will play Kane County in a double-header on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bees' bats were shut down early on by Kane County starting pitcher Anthony Capra, who threw five no-hit innings. The Bees got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning. With two outs, Patrick Norris singled, stole second and then moved to third on an error. Nick Van Stratten then tripled to score Norris.

The Bees scored two more runs in the eighth inning. With one out, Juan Rivera singled. After moving to second on a sacrifice, Van Stratten reached on an error. Eric Hosmer then walked to load the bases. Kyle Martin then reached second on a two-base error, which scored two runs and gave the Bees a 3-0 lead. The Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth but could not come any closer as they lost 3-2.

Zach Peterson got the start for the Bees. In 5.2 innings, he allowed no runs on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk. He got the win and is now 1-0. Barry Bowden pitched the final 1.1 innings and did not allow a base runner while recording two strikeouts. He got his first save of the season.

The Bees will wrap up the series with Kane County on Wednesday. The two teams will play a double-header with two seven inning games beginning at noon. The games can be heard exclusively at www.GoBees.com.
