LOS ANGELES, June 15 (Ticker) -- Tamika
Whitmore was the best in a long line of hot shooters for the Los
Angeles Sparks.
Whitmore scored 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting as
the Sparks established a franchise record for field-goal percentage in an
83-64 rout of the Houston Comets.
Los Angeles (5-4) shot 36-of-55
(65.5 percent) and made 6-of-11 3-pointers in a game it never trailed. The
club broke its previous mark for shooting, established in 2000 against New
York when it shot 60.7 percent.
Whitmore had eight points in the
first half, which the Sparks finished on a 9-0 run for a 46-28 lead.
Chamique
Holdsclaw added 17 points and Lisa
Leslie had 14 for Los Angeles. Leslie committed her fifth foul early
in the second half but saw her team expand its lead to as many as 23 in
her absence.

Snow and Sancho
Lyttle scored 13 points apiece for the Comets (4-5), who shot just
37.7 percent (23-of-61) and were outrebounded, 32-18.
