Tune in to the PBR on VERSUS
ANAHEIM, Calif. (February 9, 2008) - The second go round of the Professional Bull Riders’ (PBR) Anaheim Invitational concluded tonight from the Honda Center where fans were treated to the best bull riding action on the planet, courtesy of the Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS). Earning top honors in round two was Robson Palermo (Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil), who scored 90.5 points on Kaycee Simpson’s bull Tighty Whitey.
Palermo is ranked second in the overall event standings behind another international bull riding star — Brendon Clark (Morpeth, NSW, Australia). Clark leads the Anaheim Invitational with a cumulative score of 179 points after two go rounds of competition. Action from Anaheim wraps up on Sunday, Feb. 10 starting at 2 p.m. Round three and the Built Ford Tough Championship round will air on VERSUS on Sunday at 9 p.m.
By virtue of his victory in round one in Anaheim, Brendon Clark (Morpeth, NSW, Australia) was eligible to compete for the Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” $5,000 bonus ride. Clark successfully covered Priest Creek Ranch’s 3 Spot for 88.5 points to claim the $5,000 bonus. As tonight’s go round winner, Palermo will be eligible for the bonus money in round three on Sunday.
For the third time this season, the draft, which takes place during all three-day BFTS events, will affect the strategy it takes to win in PBR competition. Earlier Saturday afternoon, the bull riders selected their second round bull, in order based upon how well they finished in the first go round. The draft process will be repeated after the third round with the riders who qualify for the short-go selecting from among the 15 bulls scheduled to buck in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. The draft is giving these men a sense of control, however slight, over their destiny at these events and has seemingly contributed to the increase in number of qualified rides this season.
