Box ScoreLike basketball, lacrosse is a game of
runs. The Chicago Machine used a pair of lengthy runs to their
advantage as they snapped the Denver Outlaws’ four-game win
streak with a 16-13 Western Conference victory at TOYOTA Park
on Sunday afternoon.
Kevin Leveille led the Machine to the victory with three
goals and two assists while rookie Steven Brooks added three
goals, including a two-point tally.
After spotting the Outlaws a 2-0 lead in the first five
minutes, the Machine scored seven straight goals, including a
pair of Leveille markers, to take a 7-2 lead with 10:20 left
in the second quarter.
However, the Outlaws ended the first half with three
straight goals to narrow the deficit to 7-5 at the
intermission.
Coming out of the locker room, the Machine opened the third
quarter with another long run, scoring four straight goals in
the first seven minutes of the stanza.
The teams exchanged goals before Denver scored back-to-back
goals from Brendan Mundorf and Ryan Powell to close within
13-8 with 1:44 left in the third quarter. Rookie Mike Leveille
ended the third quarter with an unassisted goal with 23
seconds remaining in the period, upping Chicago’s advantage to
14-8.
The teams opened the fourth quarter by trading goals before
the Outlaws scored three straight to cut the Machine lead to
15-12. The teams exchanged goals in the final seven minutes,
giving Chicago the victory.
While Kevin Leveille recorded five points, Mike Leveille
added two goals with two assists.
Powell scored two goals with four assists while Mundorf
added three goals with three assists in a losing effort for
Denver, which lost for the first time since a one-point loss
at Washington.
