AC Sparta Praha leapt to the top of UEFA
Champions League Group H with a 4-0 victory over ten-man Feyenoord
at the Letná stadium on Tuesday night.
Second yellow card The Czech champions were already 1-0
up through a 24th-minute Lukáš Hartig goal when Feyenoord defender
Ulrich van Gobbel was sent off for a second bookable offence
following a challenge on Libor Sionko in the penalty area.
Confident strike Defender Vladimír Labant calmly
stroked the resulting penalty kick past Feyenoord goalkeeper Edwin
Zoetebier for Sparta's second goal on 38 minutes and the Dutch side
rarely threatened from then onwards.
All-action Sparta Even in the first half, Bert van
Marwijk's side had been unable to deal with Sparta's all-action
attacking style, and their patient passing movements were repeatedly
broken up by Sparta players racing through midfield.
Good goalkeeping Hartig and Sionko were a constant
threat to Feyenoord with their darting runs down the wing, and it
was only through some good saves from Zoetebier in the second half
that the Dutch side were spared an even more abject defeat.
Superb pass The tiring Feyenoord defenders held Sparta
at bay until the 70th minute when an excellent, threaded ball from
inside his own half by Rastislav Michalík went beyond defender Ferry
de Haan and found Marek Kincl who poked the ball over the diving
goalkeeper and into an empty net.
Unstoppable finish Three minutes later it got even
worse for Feyenoord when Jirí Jarošik 's neat lay-off was met by
on-rushing Slovakian midfielder Michalík who put an unstoppable low
shot past Zoetebier from the edge of the penalty area.
Top of the table Three points for Sparta sees them
overtake FC Bayern München at the top of the Group H table by virtue
of their superior goal difference. Having already drawn with the
German champions at the Olympiastadion, Sparta could now mount a
serious challenge to win the group outright.
