Sanchez's LA blues

LOS ANGELES, Feb 15 (Reuters) - South Korea's Lee Dong-gook pounced on a blunder by Mexico goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez to give his side a 1-0 friendly win in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Lee broke the deadlock between the two World Cup-bound teams in the 14th minute after Sanchez rolled the ball out too far, allowing the Korean striker to nip in and slot home the winner.

'The goal was a gift,' South Korea assistant coach Pim Verbeek told reporters. Verbeek was in charge of the team as coach Dick Advocaat had flown back to the Netherlands for his mother-in-law's funeral.

'I am very pleased tonight with my entire team's performance. Defensively we were very strong, we were good under pressure and in transition to offense.

'In preparation for Germany this summer, we have to focus on scoring more goals.'

Mexico pressed for an equaliser but were denied by fine saves from Korean keeper Lee Woon-jae.

Both teams tired in the second half but Korea maintained the upper hand until the final whistle.
