Fun but Dumb, Scraping the Bottom of the Sports Barrel »
On a recent road trip back from a wedding in Minnesota, two weary travelers found themselves exhausted in the middle of nowhere.
Being that it was the All-Star Break, there was a drought in events to keep our attention on the way home. Undeterred, Andrew found a small gem in a small town with the Northwoods League All-Star Game in Madison, WI.
If you want all the hairy details about the Northwoods League, then you need to read Andrew’s Blog. If you want the CliffsNotes version, then just keep reading here.
It took …

Andrew pulled off a first in sports travel and attendance.
We are in Minnesota for a wedding and given the fact that he is a groomsman, his schedule is fully booked by the bride. This is quite unfortunate since we can see the Target Center from our hotel. This was made worse by the fact that we were only two blocks away from the stadium during the pre-nuptial dinner.
Not to be deterred, Andrew had a plan. He could sneak out of the dinner and make it to the WBNA game (Minnesota …
Jose Canseco is Hero (Zero) »
As you may know, I have a few posts on the heated debate in our household about whether Jose Canseco is a Hero or Zero. I try not to entertain Jose by publicizing his antics, but lately, he has been such a hot mess that he is hard to ignore.
It started when I was reading my favorite celebrity trash blog, Perez Hilton, and guess who is airing his dirty laundry in US Weekly?
You got it…Andrew’s childhood hero(zero), Jose Canseco. Given his number tell-all books, I didn’t think it was possible …
Apathy in the Stands, San Francisco »
Cheering for the Giants at a recent Giants-Dodgers game was painful. It was also boring.
Fans at AT&T must be so enamored by their baseball park that they forgot about the team that plays there. Where is the love for their Giants? There were no inappropriate heckles…no fighting in the stands…no trash taking in the streets- all the attributes of a fierce sports rivalry.
By Sunday, I had enough of “keeping the peace” with my in-laws and decided to show my true West Coast colors. I did what any respecting fan would …
Apathy in the Stands, San Francisco »
Being in San Fran for the fourth of July weekend meant only one thing: heading to AT&T Park for the Giants/Dodgers game.
I admit to being a part-time Dodger fan when on the West Coast. Yet, today, I tried to be a team player. I was with my in-laws (long time Giants fans) and given the fact that they were treating for brunch, I was not going to push it.
Any trip to AT&T Park should, at least, involve a quick drink at MoMos. We decided to do brunch. Actually, it was …
WWE »
Our friend, Todd a.k.a. “ShowMe-DA-Money,” is newly employed at World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (WWE). Congrats, Todd!
This is wonderful news. Beyond our interest in sports travel, Andrew and I have the mad skills necessary to be bad-ass, no-holds-barred, off-the-ropes wrestlers. What has been lacking was our “in” with WWE, and perhaps, a great story-line for our Wrestling personas.
I am still working on a potential ideas. Here is one that I have been toying around with for myself: Nikki Fuego, the girl who wrestles with Fire! I was …
Free or NOT so Free, Scraping the Bottom of the Sports Barrel »
Are free tickets really free?
Andrew recently wrote about my dumb luck. I found a free ticket on the streets of Wrigleyville during the first inning of a night game. If you read Andrew’s blog, you know that this almost never happens. I had the urge to scalp it and grab some free beer money for a future game but had a “better” idea: why not surprise Andrew in the stadium and show up unexpectedly? Brilliant idea? Sure…and romantic, too. Expect for one small detail: Andrew randomly ended up on …
Euro 2008, Music of the Game »
At one time, Shaggy was a hot commodity on the pop charts. Now, he has a new type of global fame-making the transition to global sports anthems.
Every global sporting event (on the level of a World Cup, a regional cup (Euro Cup), Olympics, etc) needs a theme song to commemorate the event. They are often accompanied by a music video, and they are played before ceremonies, matches and during the fanfests. Usually, these tunes are glorified marketing slogans, highlighting the event’s silly, (often forgettable) alien mascots. They …
Austria, Euro 2008, Football (aka Soccer) for Dummies, Switzerland »
It has taken a few days to recover since our vacation to Euro Cup 2008…or should I say our vacation to Switzerland and Austria. I am partial to small towns in Europe-where the most active thing you do is take a stroll for a cappuccino.
We balanced this trip with four days of rest and relaxation in Switzerland-taking in one exciting match in Berne and a glorious experience at the Tour de Suisse. The rest of the days were spent in the charming and peaceful town of Lucerne- enjoying the amazing …
Best Events, Cycling »
I have written about the amazing sport of cycling. Sure, there are the Lance Armstrongs, the doping dramas, the killer spills on the mountains and the admirable endurance of the atheletes. But, it is the fan experience that makes cycling on of the best events to behold.
Our intention was not to go to another sporting event except for two Euro Cup matches. We were hoping to take a leisure turn to Tocino, Switzerland- the Italian part of the country. Andrew did his research, of course, and found an …
