It was the type of Chicago Bears game I have always wanted to attend – sub-30 degree temperatures, 50+ mph winds and a blizzard. The only other football game I attended where the field was covered in snow was the Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers divisional playoff game on January 12, 2008.

Parking Pass Mike had his parking pass for the south parking lot. So, once again, we were planning to tailgate. And, once again, the game time was changed from a noon kickoff to 3:15 pm since both the Patriots and Bears are in first place in their respective divisions. The later game time is always a blessing and especially today when we needed the extra time to get ready and get to Soldier Field.

We knew the weather would be terrible and it was. Snow was pelting us and it was cold and really windy. The Ultimate Sports Wife prepared an excellent tailgate except we did learn one thing – do not serve finger foods in this weather. You need to serve items that can be eaten with plastic ware and gloves.

The conditions at Soldier Field were miserable. However, we were all able to sneak into the media level where we have two season tickets. The media level has heaters above the concourse so we stood underneath them for the first half of the game. The game-time temperature on the field was 26 degrees. There were also 30+ mph winds swirling around the stadium and it snowed, heavily, for most of the game.

None of the conditions stopped the Patriots or Tom Brady who took a 33-0 lead into halftime. This was the Bears worst first half deficit in franchise history. The second half was unexciting as the Patriots held onto their lead and defeated the Bears 36-7. The only excitement came from the weather pounding the field.
