Cedric the Entertainer: Athletics at Cubs

It was a beautiful night for a baseball game at Wrigley Field after a rain filled and poor Cubs performance the previous night. The Cubs defeated the Oakland Athletics 6-2 as Cedric the Entertainer sang the seventh inning stretch.

The highlight of the night was Alfonso Soriano sacrifice bunting for the first time as a Chicago Cubs player and the first time in four years.

First Rain Delay of the Season: Athletics at Cubs

I normally judge how much rain Chicago gets based on the number of rain delays and postponements during the season. Last year I “went” to four postponed games and two games that were rain-shortened (which doubled my rain-shortened game attendance). That was the most postponed games I have “attended” in any season.
Tonight, the Cubs game versus the Oakland Athletics was delayed by rain for 101 minutes. And, while I do not keep track of rain delayed games, this was my first delayed game this season. The game did not start …

Stanley Cup, Double No-Hitters and a Near Foul Ball

Last night was the 888th regular season MLB game I have attended since 1990. And, it may have been one of the most memorable I have ever attended. The combination of the Blackhawks carrying the Stanley Cup around Wrigley Field, double no-hitters lasting for 6.5 innings for the first time since July 13, 1980 and a near foul ball made for an incredible evening.
Pre Game Ceremony
Before the game, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Stanley Cup were supposed to be a Rockit Bar & Grill. However, when we arrived at 6:30 …

Cubs Tickets are Officially Dead: White Sox at Cubs

One would expect tickets to a Saturday afternoon game between the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field to be expensive. But, the Cubs and White Sox are playing subpar baseball this year so tickets were much less than I expected (last year tickets were cheap due to the fact the Crosstown Series was played during the week).
As the Ultimate Sports Wife and I left the house after the game started, one scalper was offering his tickets for half-price. Another scalper we walked by had about eight tickets …

Crosstown Cup Disappointment: White Sox at Cubs

Today was a day of firsts (all bad) for Wrigley Field. First, the controversial Toyota sign was finally erected over the left field bleachers – this can be argued to its benefit. Second, the Cubs are now playing songs as players walk to the plate – a terrible idea and should never occur at Wrigley Field. Third, this was the first game of the inaugural Crosstown Cup. Whichever team wins more games between the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox claims the cup until the next season.

The fourth was just …

Chicago Midway to U.S. Cellular Field: Tigers at White Sox

Landing at Chicago’s Midway Airport and want to go to the Chicago White Sox game immediately? The drive should take you about 20 minutes. This was the case on Thursday afternoon as my Dad flew in from San Francisco and was scheduled to land at 1:00 pm. The White Sox game was scheduled to start at 1:05 pm so the race was on. However, my Dad did not land until 1:20 pm but since he did not check bags he was in the car before 1:30 pm.

I had a dilemma tonight. Two of my friends were in from Los Angeles for the Fantasy Sports Trade Association (FSTA) conference. Their activity for the evening was to attend the Chicago White Sox game. But, the game started at the same time the Chicago Blackhawks were playing Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals in Philadelphia.
My solution was to attend the White Sox game, but watch the Stanley Cup Finals from the Bullpen Sports Bar down the right field line. The bar is a regular sports bar where you …

NHL Finals Game 5: Flyers at Blackhawks

Before Game 4 of the NHL Finals in Philadelphia ticket prices for Game 5 were insane. On StubHub, SRO tickets were priced at $650 each upper level seats were $1000 each. At these prices, I would have stayed home and watched Game 5 on television. But, the Blackhawks lost Game 4 and tickets prices went into a free fall.
Beg, Borrow and Deal
I figured my best bet for buying tickets last night was to once again show up at Billy Goat Tavern. That was a good strategy for Game 1 when …

Bud Light Legends Lounge: NHL Finals Game 2

It was the Ultimate Sports Wife’s and my first night out after the birth of our son three weeks ago. And, what better way to spend the night then at Game 2 of the NHL Finals (at least in my opinion). The only issue – ticket prices were insanely expensive. With prices this high, I would normally buy tickets ahead of time from a ticket broker. This not only avoids having to carry around a lot of cash but also guarantees your tickets. Plus, you will probably not spend much …

Albert Pujols connected for three home runs in today’s Cubs game at Wrigley Field as he led the Cardinals to a 9-1 win over the Cubs. It was the fourth time he has hit three homers in a game and the first time since September 3, 2006. Pujols became only the 14th players since 1900 with at-least four three-home run games. This was only the sixth time I have witnessed a player hit three home runs in the same game. The other five being:
1) June 23, 1997: Steve Finley – …
