For the first time ever, I planned to attend two hockey games in the same day. I had always planned to attend the Chicago Wolves game since it was starting at 11:00 am – nothing better than weekday afternoon sporting events. But, Hospitality Jim also invited me to the Chicago Blackhawks game on Wednesday night so the doubleheader was set.
Beg, Borrow and Deal
There are no scalpers at a weekday afternoon minor league hockey game (let alone an evening minor league game) so I had to buy a ticket from the …

New Year’s Eve at the United Center

Ever few years the Chicago Bulls play an afternoon game on New Year’s Eve. Nicole wanted to bring her great uncle to the play “White Christmas” which started at the same time the Bulls game did – 2 pm. Since you cannot bring a baby to a play, this was my opportunity to bring the Ultimate Sports Baby to his first Chicago Bulls game.
Beg, Borrow and Deal
I dropped Nicole and her uncle off at the theater around 1:30 pm which gave me plenty of time buy a ticket, find parking …

Blackhawks Tickets are Cheap…Just Wait

After the Bears game I needed to buy the wife tickets for the New Year’s Eve showing of a White Christmas. Plus, Gary was getting a ride from the guy we were attending the Blackhawks game with – Bob DeVries. He asked me if I wanted a ride but I said no thanks – knowing that getting out of Soldier Field parking lots is a nightmare.
After going downtown, I took the #20 bus down Madison Ave. I got off at Loomis St. because I saw the Palace Grill – a …

Doubleheader with Gary Herman: Jets at Bears

The last two Bears games were pushed to 3:15 pm starts. Today the game was kept at noon which was great so we could also make it to the Chicago Blackhawks game that was scheduled to start at 6 pm.
Last night Gary Herman (who runs royaltytours.blogspot.com) flew to Chicago to attend today’s doubleheader of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Blackhawks. Gary had planned this trip for awhile since the Bears were hosting the Jets and he is a diehard Jets fan. Since Parking Pass Mike sold his tickets and parking …

With Nicole and Dylan at home, I planned to attend the Chicago Blackhawks Sunday night game. They were both sleeping at 5 pm when I left for the 6 pm start at the United Center.
Los Angeles Kings at Chicago Blackhawks
I bought a $65 ticket for $25 outside of the United Center. The Blackhawks finally played well as they defeated the Kings 3-2.

College Basketball at United Center: Illinois at UIC

As is the case with most Saturday mornings, Nicole was teaching skating. Thus, I found a sporting event to attend with the Ultimate Sports Baby. This time it was UIC Men’s Basketball hosting Illinois at the United Center. Based on my experience from the Blackhawks game last Wednesday night I figured it would not be too painful to bring Dylan into the United Center again. Plus, college basketball only lasts for two hours so the game should be quick.

I figured tickets would be cheap. On my walk …

Blizzard in Chicago: Patriots at Bears

It was the type of Chicago Bears game I have always wanted to attend – sub-30 degree temperatures, 50+ mph winds and a blizzard. The only other football game I attended where the field was covered in snow was the Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers divisional playoff game on January 12, 2008.
Parking Pass Mike had his parking pass for the south parking lot. So, once again, we were planning to tailgate. And, once again, the game time was changed from a noon kickoff to 3:15 pm since both the …

Ultimate Sports Baby attends First NHL Game

Hospitality Jim invited me to last night’s Blackhawks game. With the wife out of town and now babysitters available, the Ultimate Sports Baby had to attend his first NHL game at the United Center. I was slightly concerned since I knew I would have to put Dylan into the baby bjorn and sit in my seat with him for the entire game. Remember, I avoided this hassle when I chose to attend the DePaul Men’s Basketball game rather than the Blackhawks game on November 14.
Getting to the United Center with …

Sneaking Into the United Club: Eagles at Bears

With the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles both sitting at 6-3 in the standings, FOX changed the game time from a noon start to 3:15 pm. Since my friend, Mike Holzman (who I guess we now need to start referring to as Parking Pass Mike), had his parking pass for the South Lot we were planning to tailgate. The game time change meant we got out to the parking lot at noon rather than 9 am – a much needed delay.
But, once again, without the Ultimate Sports Wife attending, our …

Alabama St. at Loyola Men’s Basketball

With the wife out of town the Ultimate Sports Baby and I decided to take in the only game in town – Loyola Men’s Basketball vs. Alabama St. Two seasons ago, I took in a men’s and women’s game at Loyola University – my first visits to the Gentile Center at the time.
I had to pay to park since I was with the Ultimate Sports Baby, but paying for parking is better than taking the train. It only cost $7 to park in the parking structure closest to the arena. …
