The Cubs continued a successful start to the second half of the season coming from behind against the Phillies. Aramis Ramirez hit a solo home run with two outs in the 8th inning to give the Cubs a 4-3 lead and Carlos Marmol struck out the side in the top of the 9th to secure the victory for the Cubs.

The Cubs were back at home tonight to start the second half of the season. And, they started it out with a bang. On a hot summer night Derrek Lee, Alfonso Soriano and Geovany Soto all hit home runs as the Cubs defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 12-6 giving 47-year-old Jamie Moyer his first loss at Wrigley Field since the 1988 season. Even Ryan Howard got into the act homering twice – once in the 1st inning and once in the 9th inning. This was Howard’s 25th career multi-homer game.

Ballparksavvy.com Visits Wrigley: Reds at Cubs

Last year, on July 7, I watched Paul Konerko hit three home runs in the same game and realized that he was the first player I saw achieve the feat in six years. Now, this season, I have witnessed two players hit three home runs in one game. First, was Albert Pujols on May 30th. Today, assisted by a 20-mph wind blowing out of the ballpark, Drew Stubbs hit three home runs as the Reds hit seven home runs total (and four in the seventh inning) crushing the Cubs 14-3. …

Ultimate Sports Baby Attends Eighth Cubs Game

It was a typical Saturday afternoon – attend the Cubs game with the family. The Ultimate Sports Wife and I walked over to Wrigley Field with the Ultimate Sports Baby as Dylan attended his eighth Cubs game today at the young age of eight weeks old (averaging one game per week of life is not bad).

The Cubs managed to win a game as Randy Wells took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. The Cubs matched a franchise record leaving 17 runners on base.

There is one thing I will say about Cubs fans – they endure some pain to attend games at Wrigley Field and I am not talking about the performance on the field. If I did not live less than one block from the ballpark, there is no way I would attend as many games as I do – unless, of course, I lived near a subway stop. But I would never want to drive to Wrigley Field on a regular basis. Let’s consider what suburban Cubs fans go through.
1) They …

Cold Summer Weather at Wrigley Field: Pirates at Cubs

The Cubs somehow managed a victory versus the Pittsburgh Pirates this season. And, somehow Alfonso Soriano was the reason why. Soriano belted two home runs leading the Cubs to a 3-1 victory over the Pirates. The Cubs improved to 3-8 on the season versus the lowly Pirates as Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic of ESPN Radio’s Mike and Mike in the Morning sang during the seventh inning stretch.

Santo 50: Pirates at Cubs

The Cubs were back in town to host the Pittsburgh Pirates after a week on the road. The Pirates, losers of 17 straight road games, were hoping to snap their streak. And, the Cubs were the perfect opponent for them since they are 7-2 against the Cubs this season before last night’s game.
The game appeared to be heading to extra innings until the top of the 9th inning when Jose Tabata doubled to deep right center scoring Ryan Doumit to give the pirates a 2-1 lead.

On Mother’s Day, the Ultimate Sports Wife gave birth to our first child. Today, Dylan (aka Ultimate Sports Baby) attended his fourth Cubs game to celebrate Father’s Day.
Bringing the Ultimate Sports Baby
Since we were with the Ultimate Sports Baby we sat in Row 1 of Section 504 – way down the left field line. One good way to bring an infant to a sporting event is to leave him in his infant car seat. That way you can carry the car seat into the ballpark and not have to take …

Today the Cubs experienced their worst loss in 18 years. The Angels defeated the Cubs 12-0 which matched their 12-0 loss to the Montreal Expos on September 26, 1992. But, that game was in Montreal. This was their worst home loss since losing 17-0 to the Cincinnati Reds on September 4, 1988.

For some scheduling reason, the Los Angeles (Anaheim) Angels had never visited Wrigley Field until today and are the last Major League Baseball team to do so.
Pre Game Dining
Before the game, my friend Cory and I went to Murphy’s – a bar I rarely go to since it is overpriced and overcrowded. But for some reason I went after yesterday’s game and before today’s.
