For the second time this season, I witnessed the Cubs give up 18 runs at Wrigley Field. This time the Mets pounded the Cubs 18-5 as the Mets scored 5-runs in three different innings. This was only the eighth game I have attended in which one team scored 18 or more runs in the game.

The Mets and Cubs are clearly playing too poorly for FOX to keep them on the national broadcast as the game time was changed from 3:10 pm to 12:05 pm. The game was calm (even Carlos Zambrano kept his cool after Carlos Beltran eluded Starlin Castro’s tag at second base in the fourth inning) as the Cubs defeated the Mets 5-3. Castro became the first Cubs rookie since May 21-28, 1944 to have six straight multi-hit games.

Two years ago the Ultimate Sports Wife and I attended the Cubs game at Wrigley Field for our eighth wedding anniversary. That game was a night game but the eight-year anniversary is not a major milestone.
