Blizzard in Chicago: Patriots at Bears

It was the type of Chicago Bears game I have always wanted to attend – sub-30 degree temperatures, 50+ mph winds and a blizzard. The only other football game I attended where the field was covered in snow was the Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers divisional playoff game on January 12, 2008.
Parking Pass Mike had his parking pass for the south parking lot. So, once again, we were planning to tailgate. And, once again, the game time was changed from a noon kickoff to 3:15 pm since both the …

Ford Field: Bears at Lions

When deciding where we wanted to go this weekend there was two main reasons to go to Detroit. First, the Bears were playing the Lions. Second, skaters from Nicole’s ice rink were participating in a synchronized skating competition in Dearborn, MI on Saturday night. Thus, with two good reasons, we chose Detroit.
As I wrote yesterday, we were staying at the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit which was a short walk to Ford Field. After eating brunch in the hotel, the Ultimate Sports Wife and Ultimate Sports Baby took a nap while …

Sneaking Into the United Club: Eagles at Bears

With the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles both sitting at 6-3 in the standings, FOX changed the game time from a noon start to 3:15 pm. Since my friend, Mike Holzman (who I guess we now need to start referring to as Parking Pass Mike), had his parking pass for the South Lot we were planning to tailgate. The game time change meant we got out to the parking lot at noon rather than 9 am – a much needed delay.
But, once again, without the Ultimate Sports Wife attending, our …

Calm Sunday: Vikings at Bears

It was a calm Bears Sunday for the first time in a long time. I had no tailgating options since my friend, Mike Holzman, was in New Orleans for the game and my other connections were also missing today’s game. Nicole on campus working on job applications so I was going to a Bears game solo for the first time ever. And, it was pretty relaxing.

Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears
The game was also calm as the Bears got to Brett Favre and the Vikings. Favre threw three interceptions and lost …

NFL in London: Broncos at 49ers

One of the main reasons for taking the trip to London this week, was that the San Francisco 49ers were hosting the Denver Broncos at Wembley Stadium in the NFL’s annual regular season game in London. The game was scheduled to kick off at 5 pm on Sunday night.
Beg, Borrow and Deal
After spending the day with one of Nicole’s friends from high school I arrived at Wembley around 4 pm. Rather than check out the pub scene around the stadium, I decided to look for a ticket. I found an …

The rare occurrence of last week was actually not that rare. My buddy, Mike Holzman, received his father’s South lot parking pass again. However, Nicole needed to move forward with her school work so we were on our own for this tailgate.
Since she did practically all of the work last week, Mike ended up putting this tailgate together. He brought burgers but the fact the grill worked was a major plus. I, with a 6-month-old at home, brought nothing to the table except a 12-pack of beer.

Jarrett Payton at Tailgate: Seahawks at Bears

In a rare occurrence, my friend Mike Holzman had his south lot parking pass. So the Ultimate Sports Wife and I hired a babysitter and Nicole planned her own tailgate feast. On the menu was gorgonzola stuffed burgers, artichoke dip and stuffed mushrooms. On a food-only level, it definitely competes with Tailgate Rob’s menu, but our tailgate looks a lot worse than his does. Our main issue was the lack of a table and only having a small grill. To give you an example of the sad state of our …

Monday Night Football: Packers at Bears

For the first time in awhile, the Ultimate Sports Wife and I did not tailgate or go out before or after a Bears game at Soldier Field – which actually made for a calm game day.

Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears
It was Monday Night Football so we arrived at Soldier Field shortly after 7 pm and headed straight into the stadium. The Packers took a late first quarter lead after Greg Jennings caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers. The Packers held onto the lead at halftime 10-7.
However, that …

NFL Opening Day: Lions at Bears

This season is the first in awhile where the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs home games do not conflict with each other – meaning I do not have to choose which game to attend. Two years ago, I chose to attend the Bears home opener rather than the Cubs game since Tailgate Rob was tailgating before the game. This year was no exception as Tailgate Rob tries to attend the Bears home opener each season. Needless to say we were in the South Lot by 8:30 am.

After the tailgate, my …

We were back at Soldier Field for a second consecutive Saturday night as the Chicago Bears were hosting the Arizona Cardinals.
Pre Game Dining
Before the game we ate at Tapas Valencia located at 1530 S. State St. As I wrote last week, we paid $26 to park and the parking lots around the area are more expensive than that. When we valet parked our car at the restaurant they told us we could pay $15 if we wanted for park for the Bears game (regular valet price is $6, but a …
