I had a choice of which game to attend today. Northwestern was hosting Central Michigan at 11 am at Ryan Field. The Cubs had a 12:05 pm start. For the second week in a row Sunday night baseball was held at Wrigley Field – two Sunday night baseball games at the same location in back-to-back weeks is definitely rare. The St. Louis Cardinals were looking to avoid being swept by the Chicago Cubs and managed to comeback from a 3-2 deficit to defeat the Cubs 4-3 in 11 innings.

Albert Pujols connected for three home runs in today’s Cubs game at Wrigley Field as he led the Cardinals to a 9-1 win over the Cubs. It was the fourth time he has hit three homers in a game and the first time since September 3, 2006. Pujols became only the 14th players since 1900 with at-least four three-home run games. It was a big day for sporting events in Chicago. First, the Chicago Cubs were hosting the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field at 3:10 pm. Second, the Chicago Blackhawks were hosting the Philadelphia Flyers in the first NHL Finals game in Chicago in 18 years. With the NHL Finals game starting at 7:00 pm there was very little wiggle room for the Cubs game to run long.

Cubs’ tickets are officially dead for the summer. My neighbor and I bought a pair of Cubs tickets for $30 ($15 each) without leaving our courtyard. The face value on each ticket was $70.56. Buying a ticket for so cheap to watch the Cardinals and Cubs at Wrigley Field rarely occurs, but is the main reason why I always recommend waiting to buy tickets until you arrive to the venue on game day.
