Flying to Scandinavia this Evening
Four weeks ago, I started planning a weekend trip to Europe. I had planned to fly to London in order to travel to Dublin and Edinburgh for RBS 6 Nations rugby. However, the airfares to London were not cheap enough to make the trip.
Instead, I discovered that the airfare to Sweden was only $581.90 – cheap for Scandinavia. Plus, I had never been to Sweden. My next step was to determine if there were enough sporting events to make the trip worthwhile. There was a hockey game in Stockholm on Thursday night and a soccer match in Copenhagen on Sunday afternoon. But, I had not found anything to attend on Friday and Saturday – meaning London was still the top choice.
But, I kept looking. To find some additional sporting events I went to ticnet.se (the Ticketmaster of Sweden) and found that there would be Davis Cup matches between Sweden and Russia on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the weekend in Boras, Sweden – about halfway in between Stockholm and Copenhagen. Thus, the trip to Sweden and Denmark was decided. The itinerary would be:
Wed, March 2: Fly to Stockholm, Sweden
Thu, March 3: Stay in Stockholm for Djurgårdens IF hockey
Fri, March 4: Train to Boras, Sweden before Davis Cup Tennis
Sat, March 5: Stay in Boras, Sweden for Davis Cup Tennis
Sun, March 6: Train to Copenhagen, Denmark before Brondby soccer match
Mon, March 7: Fly back to Chicago
