NCAA Tournament Round 3: #11 VCU vs. #3 Purdue

21 March 2011 No Comment

To my surprise the NCAA Tournament Round 3 was not scheduled to begin until 6:10 pm. Most first Sundays for the NCAA Tournament are schedule as afternoon affairs, but today was a change to the norm which definitely worked in my favor as my babysitter could not come over until later Sunday afternoon.

Pre Game Dining
As soon as the babysitter arrived, I left the house as Nicole was still working on her dissertation on Northwestern’s campus. I went to Billy Goat Tavern for a pre-game burger and beer.

Beg, Borrow and Deal
Most scalpers on the walk from Billy Goat Tavern wanted around face value ($80) for their tickets. I wanted to pay $20 if possible. After walking around the United Center, I had not found a fan that would sell for that low. However, I did find one scalper who offered me a ticket for $40 and would not go lower on price so that is what I paid.

#11 VCU vs. #3 Purdue
On Friday, JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore dominated St. Peter’s for Purdue. Tonight VCU figured out how to contain both of them as they cruised to a 94-76 victory over the Boilermakers. A shocking win since VCU was a controversial entry into the tournament.
