Some argue that the Chicago Cubs home opener at Wrigley Field is an event not to be missed. I would argue that you should save your money for another event – the weather is usually miserable, tickets are expensive and all the bars in the neighborhood are overcrowded. The games later in the week are the much better bargain and experience.
However, as was the case with the Chicago White Sox home opener last Monday, today’s game between the Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers was abnormal – it was …

Unless the Chicago White Sox have a Saturday home game on FOX, they always schedule their Saturday games for 6:05 pm. This does not allow me to attend many weekend White Sox games as I cannot leave the wife alone on a Saturday night. However, for the past several years, the White Sox scheduled their first Saturday home game of the year for 12:10 pm rather than 6:05 pm. The reason for this is that it could easily be 35 degrees on an April afternoon in Chicago …

I-94 Doubleheader Continued: Indians at White Sox

As I mentioned in my last post I had planned to attend the Brewers afternoon game in Milwaukee yesterday. However, there were multiple options of games to attend at night – the Milwaukee Bucks, Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago White Sox were all at home. Since I was invited to the White Sox game that became the game of choice – plus I have never attended the I-94 doubleheader (both Miller Park and U.S. Cellular Field sit directly next to I-94).

I-94 Doubleheader: Rockies at Brewers

Two weeks ago when I attended the NCAA Tournament with two guys I met at an Indiana Pacers game in January, one of the guys invited me to the Chicago White Sox game on Wednesday, April 7. I guess his weekend’s only season ticket plan comes with one weeknight game during the season – just another way for the White Sox to sell tickets to a crappy night game in April.
Before this invite, I was already planning to attend the Milwaukee Brewers afternoon game scheduled the same day. One of …

Chicago Opening Day, 70 Degrees and the Upcoming Apocalypse

The following two phrases do not go together for Chicago baseball – Opening Day and seventy degrees. Every Chicago home opener I can remember has been cold and rainy. For example, last year, the White Sox were rained out on Opening Day and the Cubs, on their home opener, had an hour and 15 minute rain delay before the game and temperatures in the 30’s for the entire game. I have spent many opening days (or home openers) freezing in the upper deck of either Wrigley Field or U.S. Cellular …
