Louisiana Superdome New Orleans, LA
Stadium Review
The Louisiana Superdome opened on August 3, 1975 and has probably hosted the most major sporting events in the United States than any other stadium.
First, the stadium has hosted the Super Bowl six times (1978, 1981, 1986, 1990, 1997, 2002) and is scheduled to host Super Bowl XLVII in 2013. Second, the Superdome has hosted the BCS National Championship Game three times (2000, 2004, 2008) and is scheduled to host the 2012 game. Third, it has hosted the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four four times (1982, 1987, 1993, 2003) and is scheduled to host the Final Four again in 2012 – not to mention the multiple times the stadium has hosted earlier rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
In addition, the stadium annually hosts the Sugar Bowl, the New Orleans Bowl and the Bayou Classic.
The biggest home team related event to be played at the Superdome was the NFC Championship Game on January 24, 2010.
