Smith gets the advantage off the line and starts to pull away. He extends his lead through half-track, then has problems and the bike shuts down. Gann drives around him at 1100 feet, then has problems getting the bike to stop. he goes into the sand pretty hard but is able to walk away.

In the next round it will be Rivas with lane choice over Stoffer, Sampey vs. Smith, Hines vs. Krawiec, and Arana vs. Treble.

Gann was unable to return after his trip into the sand in the first round. Sampey gets out of the groove, drifts to the right, but is able to straighten the bike out and make a decent pass.
