Results for Elimination Round 1
JOLIET, Ill. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1
eliminations in Pro Modified at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series,
Seventh annual NHRA Route 66 Nationals:
 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Zach Barklage (R.P. Lumber *'04 Grand Am) 0.083 6.237 230.72
 (L) Thomas Patterson (*'41 Willys) 0.157 6.256 224.40
1:50 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 72 percent, barometer 28.98 inches, adjusted altitude 2,567 feet, track temperature 95 degrees.

This is an unusual Pro Mod field -- there's not a 1963 Corvette in sight. Barklage had the better start and stayed out in front the entire way to take the win.

 (W) Mike Castellana (Western Beef '68 Camaro) 0.067 6.217 225.63
 (L) Al Billes (SMP *'53 Corvette) 0.107 6.290 226.43
Castellana got this win with a better start and quicker ET.
 (W) Mike Ashley (Gotham City *'67 Mustang) 0.002 6.246 226.85
 (L) Shannon Jenkins (Speedtech '68 Camaro) 0.056 6.232 225.33
Ashley had a great light to take the win but he gave up lane choice to Castellana in the next round.
 (W) Fred Hahn (Summit Racing *'01 Corvette) 0.052 6.185 230.21
 (L) Von Smith (Dr. Moon's Rage *'04 Mustang) 0.082 6.273 227.46
For qualifying number one, Fred Hahn got to race Von Smith in the first round. Hahn was the number one qualifier and he and team owner Jim Oddy must have the right set up on this car because Hahn just had the quickest run of the weekend to take the win. He'll have lane choice over Barklage in the next round.

3:09 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 82 percent, barometer 28.96 inches, adjusted altitude 2,407 feet, track temperature 88 degrees.

Ashley left too soon and lit the red light so Castellana will have a trip to the final round.

 (L) Zach Barklage (R.P. Lumber *'04 Grand Am) 0.141 6.253 230.49
Hahn had his quickest run of the weekend in the first round of eliminations. Team owner Jim Oddy made a last second decision to change lanes and the decision paid off with the win when Hahn got off the starting line first and led the race the entire way. It'll be Hahn vs. Castellana in the final round with Hahn having lane choice.

Fred Hahn failed to qualify for the first two races of the 2004 season. He was the number one qualifier in the last event but went out in the first round of eliminations. This time, the 2003 defending champion was the number one qualifier and made it into the final round.

In the final, Castellana had the quicker start and stayed out in front the whole way in his nitrous-breathing Camaro. Hahn started to close the gap but got a little loose at mid track and Castellana went on to take the win.
